Awards Salvation Farms Has Received

Salvation Farms receives an
E-chievement Award from etwon

A NATIONAL RADIO BROADCAST SINCE 1991
etown is an exciting weekly radio broadcast heard from coast to coast on NPR, public and commercial stations. Every etown show is taped in front of a live audience and features performances from many of today's top musical artists as well as conversations and information about the world around us. At etown, we build community through music.

Nick and Helen Forster, co-host of etwon.

About the E-chievement Award
One of the show's most popular segments is the e-chievement award. Listeners from around the country send in tales of remarkable individuals who are working hard to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond. From massive river clean-ups to programs that help the homeless, from neighborhood environmental activists to national social and environmental organizations, we take pride in celebrating the success stories of ordinary citizens accomplishing extraordinary things.
One step at a time. That's how things change, that's how problems are solved. That's the message delivered each week, as we recognize people around the country who've found positive solutions to challenges in their communities. Each winner is nominated by a listener and joins us live, by phone or in person, to tell their personal story on the air.

Salvation Farms’ founders are extremely honored and so excited to receive this award in recognition of the hard work and determination that went into the success of our gleaning project. We expect the interview with Co-founder, Theresa Snow, to air in mid-July. Listen to the point radio station for announcements regarding the approach of this edition of etown and watch your local papers for articles also announcing the interview date.
Thanks for the recognition etown!

Salvation Farms Receives Community Service Award

Fifteen members and friends of Kingdom Pomona Grange #35 met at the home office of Salvation Farms in North Wolcott, Vermont, joining with the organization to celebrate another successful year of gleaning. Prior to the formal program everyone shared a Vermont products potluck dinner.

At the conclusion of the program Theresa Snow, Project Director, and Salvation Farms were presented with the annual Kingdom Pomona Community Service Award by Pomona Lecturer. This award recognizes outstanding achievement on a regional basis by a person or group.

Salvation Farms, under the leadership of Ms. Snow, has gleaned over twelve ton of vegetable products this year from participating farms, picking up quality foodstuffs that would otherwise be wasted. Following the professional harvest, one hundred per cent of these products are donated to area food shelves, school programs, or other outlets in need of food. We are honored to recognize Theresa and her program!

Engaged Community Partner

Salvation Farms is honored to announce being included in the nomination by Sterling College for the Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Community Partner Award. The award recognizes a group that… “works to support the civic mission of their partnering campus”….and offers “vital links for engaging campuses and students to meet critical needs in the community.” We are pleased to be listed amongst some of the finest farmers and farm organizations in our area. Thanks Sterling!

Sterling College writes, “This group of Craftsbury area agricultural enterprises has offered an invaluable resource for learning, work, and service here at Sterling College. Community partners enhance the life of the local community and enhance learning for our students at Sterling. Service learning continues as some of these farming endeavors serve as sites for senior’s research project. One of the seniors, Jen O’Donnell, (Senior Applied Research Project) …led directly to the expansion of gleaning work for Salvation Farms. We currently have students working regularly with Salvation Farms …which harvest and donate food from many of the farms on the list. This service organization in turn cooperates with many partnering farms on our list.”

Cookie Drop Award

We are honored to have received a Springfield College School of Human Services Cookie Drop Award. The framed award appreciates the “outstanding community contributions made by Salvation Farms staff and volunteers.” We were visited on an August afternoon by a representative from the college with a basket of cookies and ice cold organic milk… plus an award. We thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing snack and gracious gleaner. Thanks for a great afternoon!
