Volunteer to Glean
Join a glean at your neighborhood farms! Gleaning means “reaping after the harvest” — or gathering crops that farmers have not picked or have harvested but cannot sell. As a gleaner, you will connect with your neighbors and help collect and distribute fresh fruits and veggies to your community. Volunteer with one of our Gleaning Programs in the Lamoille Valley and Northeast Kingdom or a program affiliated with the Vermont Gleaning Collective.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
Salvation Farms' impact is made through engaging people in our work at many levels of our organization —from the occasional field gleaner to kitchen/processing volunteer to administrative and office support. We welcome people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to join us and see our work in action. In 2025, we engaged 147 volunteers who donated approximately 500 hours of their time. Volunteers are the backbone of our organization, so please consider supporting our mission by getting involved — whether it be your Rotary Club, faith-based organization, or your family.

Processing Program Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers will be engaged in hands-on minimal processing of surplus produce for freezing and packaging. The resulting Vermont-grown, frozen produce will be distribution to sites that feed youth, the elderly, the sick, food insecure, and incarcerated.
Unfortunately, there are no Vermont Commodity Program volunteer opportunities at this time.
But keep watch! There will be soon.
I think many would agree that Salvation Farms is the recognized state wide leader in gleaning for public good. They are a bold, innovative and remarkably productive partner in reducing food waste and increasing food access in Vermont. The Salvation Farms leadership brings unparalleled passion and dedication to a critical mission in the state.
